Why Global Car Dealers Are Sourcing Toyota RAV4 from China: Price & Supply Advantages
China builds the new RAV4 locally and offers six versions from stock. Here is why more overseas dealers now source it there, and what to check before you switch.
The Toyota RAV4 is one of the most familiar SUV nameplates in the world. Buyers know it, workshops know it, and resale is easy in many markets. For a dealer, the hard part is not selling it. The hard part is getting enough units, in the right versions, at a price that leaves margin. That is why more importers now look to China.
Why is China a strong source for the RAV4?
The sixth-generation RAV4 is built locally in China by FAW Toyota and went on sale there on 21 November 2025. China is a very large car market with a dense supplier base, so new models reach dealer stock quickly. For an exporter, that means steady access to fresh 0 km vehicles rather than waiting on allocation from a distant regional distributor.
- Local production. Vehicles come from FAW Toyota, not from grey re-exports of cars built elsewhere.
- Wide version choice. Six China-spec versions cover hybrid and petrol, FWD and AWD.
- Fresh stock. In-stock vehicles ship within 10 working days after payment.
- Many export routes. Major ports such as Ningbo and Guangzhou serve sea routes, and land routes reach Central Asia.
How does pricing from China compare?
We do not publish prices, and we will not quote averages here. Prices change with version, colour, quantity, the domestic market and the exchange rate. What we can say is how pricing works. China is a competitive domestic market, and export pricing is set per order on FOB or CIF terms. You see the vehicle cost and the transport cost clearly, so you can compare it with your current source on a like-for-like basis.

Version choice also helps. In some regional channels, dealers can only get one or two trims, or must wait months for a specific colour. From China, the full six-version line-up is available, from the entry 2.0 hybrid to the 2.5 hybrid Flagship on 20-inch wheels. That makes it easier to build a range that covers both price-focused buyers and buyers who want the top trim.
Flexible order sizes are often the deciding point. A small dealer can order one 2.0 Hybrid FWD Elite and one 2.0 Petrol FWD Luxury in the same shipment. A fleet buyer can order a full lot of one version. Both get the same paperwork and the same update process.
Which markets already import RAV4s this way?

What should I check before switching suppliers?
- Spec fit. China-spec cars are built for China. Confirm the steering side, emissions level, lighting and language settings suit your market.
- Legal import. Check type approval, import licence and any rules on vehicle origin with your authorities.
- After-sales. Plan parts supply and service. Talk to local Toyota-trained workshops about hybrid servicing if you import hybrids.

- Payment terms. Agree payment milestones in the contract before any money moves.
